Nielsen's Sewciable and Doug Todd's Craftsky: how are they doing?

Ever since the Australian sewist Megan Nielsen went off to her new platform Sewciable (which was known as just Sewcial the last time we breathed down its neck), Nielsen has predictably been all quiet on Instagram and pretty much any outlet accessible to Lemuria and his one-man Taxonomy Board.

Of course, this is because she's retreated to her own walled garden, billed as free of algorithms¹.

Access to Sewciable costs two US dollars per month, which is a cost the Taxonomy Board and its metaphorical Accounting Department could swallow, but refuses to out of sheer principle.

We've covered this before, so let's get Nielsen out of the way. No updates on her.

Doug Todd's Craftsky

Craftsky goes on, at a glacial, but okay pace. When we wrote this, on August 1, Doug Todd (Zambrella) had made a commit to a roadmap file indicating that handling non-English languages was complete. Things like drafts, video, growth metrics, featured products, etc. are still unfinished, but it's never a bad idea to take things slow.

Here at Lemuria, we have more faith in Craftsky than we do in Sewciable, because it's open, and citing images from it when we get to doing taxonomy work again won't be a pain.

Threadloop's navy

Threadloop's (metaphorical) navy continues to take action against those who would dare sail the seven seas to obtain digital sewing pattern files. Pay your designers what they deserve, please.

A user on r/PDFSewingExchange posted a screenshot of an email Guro (one of Threadloop's founders) sent them, saying "public sharing of your pattern stash has been permanently disabled", etc. And all of that. As seen in this Reddit post.

Coincidentally, Guro means teacher in the native language² spoken where the Board's HQ is (Tagalog), so we're proud to say that we hope this user learns their lesson.

² This doesn't make Guro a Filipino; rather, it's simply a nice coincidence. The Mbabaram word for "dog" is well... also "dog".
