Blog
Welcome to Lemuria's blog, established on May 28, 2025. Random nonsensical ramblings up ahead, prepare yourselves.

Migrating to Hugo
I migrated to Hugo. It took a while, but we made it to the other side. This used to be a Jekyll blog, but I was enthralled by Hugo's promises of faster website builds. The hours that went into switching to Hugo probably won't be recouped by the faster builds, but we changed anyway and we made it, so we might as well stay here.

New project: Adding Twitch streamers and their originals to MusicBrainz
I've been at it for a while, but I've spent much of the early parts of July adding Twitch musicians to MusicBrainz. MusicBrainz is a crowdsourced database of music, collecting metadata like releases, titles, release dates, artists, and URLs for streaming services and artists' social media pages. It is not a streaming service, nor does it host any music files.

QGIS is surprisingly good at 2D starmaps
QGIS is free and open-source GIS software. Typically, the G would stand for "geographic", but there's nothing saying we can't redefine the G to make it mean "galactographic" instead. While in the real world, galaxies are 3D, and QGIS is meant for flat 2D maps and not complex 3D objects like the Milky Way, many science fiction universes use a 2D map anyway, since it's convenient and doesn't require users to learn any strange or funky controls.

Meowing at people over UDP
I've developed a new work-in-progress protocol for hosts to meow at each other over UDP port 32390. A reference implementation in Go, alongside a Lua dissector for looking at Meow Protocol packets in Wireshark, are available at a-random-lemurian/meow-protocol on GitHub.

Update to the theme
I updated my custom Jekyll theme yet again; major additions include a change to the way posts are listed, some excerpts, and even a photo of Ming at the bottom.

soggy.cat mirror on lemuria.ph
To ensure the increased availability of the glorious soggy cat (github repo), made possible by FP, Lauren Fern, and others, soggy.cat's contents have been mirrored onto lemuria.ph.

Ming, one of the local cats
I'm a cat lover. In a move that's expected to increase the bandwidth load on my server, I have decided to put up some cat photos here, alongside some supplementary information on Ming.

Image test - stalking a cat
And now to test how well Jekyll will do with images.

New Jekyll blog
It's quite overcomplicated, but I somehow managed to cobble together a Jekyll theme that looks just like the root of lemuria.ph, and upload this to the server.

Why you shouldn't wish 10 million subscribers on your favorite creators
Back then, I used to wish that every obscure singer I stumbled upon became popular, with millions of subscribers and fans. But now, I find this undesirable in many aspects.
