We're back. On August 13, 2026, lemuria.ph went down due to one too many scripts running at the same time. We decided to run some scripts to upload data to the Internet Archive at high-speed, saturating our connection, but then quickly learned how small 2GB of RAM is, when the VPS began to be unresponsive to SSH.
Rather annoyingly, I continue to languish on the wrong side of CGNAT jail, sharing IPs with customers afflicted with malware. CGNAT wouldn't always be a problem, except for the fact that my ISP seems to rotate my connection through three different IP addresses.
This thus sends weird, crazy signals to Ionos, whose abuse detection systems go haywire and deny me access to the cloud console to manage what I pay for. Ionos support tried their best; but at the end of the day, it was just a matter of dealing with my ISP.
I will say though, the cheap corporate hold music, which even if it didn't sound so horrible (that's how compression on phone lines works), is not something I'm interested in hearing again today. Even the FLAC file, if it exists, is going to sound like some poor employee in a polo shirt singing the praises of playing video games after school with their blazing fast fiber plans.
Eventually I was able to try a different network; surprisingly, Ionos allowed me to connect through Globe's network, which I accessed through mobile data. I then rebooted the VPS, and took out my uptime with it (rest in peace).
The post-mortem lesson is, maybe don't run so many instances of the script at such a high speed.
